Best Budapest Neighborhoods for Short-Term Stays: An Insider’s Guide

Budapest is compact enough to explore on foot, but each district has its own personality. Where you stay shapes your entire experience. Here’s what our team — managing 100+ apartments across the city — actually recommends based on what guests tell us.

District V — The Historic Heart

District V (Belváros-Lipótváros) is Budapest’s most central district and home to landmarks like the Hungarian Parliament, St. Stephen’s Basilica, and the Chain Bridge. If you want to wake up and walk to the most iconic sights, this is it.

Best for: First-time visitors, couples, business travelers
Vibe: Grand, historic, polished
Downside: Touristy, pricier, quieter at night

Walking distance from most District V apartments: Parliament (5 min), Basilica (5 min), Chain Bridge (8 min), Váci Street shopping (3 min).

District VII — The Jewish Quarter

The 7th district is Budapest’s most energetic neighborhood. The Great Synagogue, the ruin bar scene, and the best street food in the city are all here. It’s also the most social — you’ll run into other travelers and make connections easily.

Best for: Solo travelers, young couples, nightlife seekers
Vibe: Gritty-cool, bohemian, alive at all hours
Downside: Can be noisy on weekends; not ideal for light sleepers

Szimpla Kert — the original ruin bar — is a 10-minute walk from most 7th district apartments. The covered market at Klauzál tér is a must for lunch.

District VI — Andrássy Avenue & the Opera District

District VI runs along Andrássy Avenue, Budapest’s answer to the Champs-Élysées. Grand apartment buildings, the Opera House, and a calmer atmosphere than the 7th while still being central. This is where LifeSpace has some of its most popular long-stay apartments.

Best for: Culture lovers, longer stays (1–3 weeks), expats settling in
Vibe: Elegant, leafy, residential
Downside: Less nightlife; you’ll need a tram for the Danube views

District II & III — Buda Side (Quieter Option)

If you want to be outside the tourist bustle, the Buda hills (District II) offer residential calm, excellent air quality, and stunning hilltop views. District III (Óbuda) is older, quieter, and cheaper — authentic Budapest before the gentrification.

Best for: Families, nature lovers, longer stays
Vibe: Residential, peaceful, local
Downside: You’ll need the metro or tram to reach the main sights
