If you’re placing employees at Samsung SDI’s Göd plant or SK On’s Iváncsa site, the Samsung SDI Göd commute and the SK On Iváncsa commute from Budapest are not the same problem, and choosing the wrong apartment location can turn a 25-minute drive into a daily hour-plus ordeal. Both plants sit outside Budapest in opposite directions from the city centre, which means the “best district” answer depends entirely on which plant your employee is assigned to. Below is a realistic, no-spin comparison of both commutes, the districts that actually work for each, and what it means for your housing budget.
Two Plants, Two Very Different Commutes
Samsung SDI’s battery plant sits in Göd, a town on the Danube roughly 25–30 km north of central Budapest, in Pest county. SK On’s plant is in Iváncsa, roughly 55–60 km south of the city in Fejér county, near Ercsi and the M6 motorway corridor toward Dunaújváros. They are, in effect, on opposite ends of the Budapest metro area — an employee housed for a Göd assignment is often 60–90 minutes from a comfortable Iváncsa commute, and vice versa. Getting this wrong is the single most common (and most avoidable) mistake we see in corporate housing requests.
Samsung SDI Göd — The Commute From Budapest
By car
Driving from northern Budapest (District III, XIII or XV) to Göd via route 2 / the M2 expressway typically runs 30–45 minutes outside peak hours, stretching to 50–60 minutes during the morning shift-change rush when traffic backs up around Dunakeszi and Fót. From central or southern districts (V, VI, IX), add another 15–25 minutes just to clear the city.
By train and shuttle
The MÁV suburban line from Nyugati station to Göd runs regularly and takes roughly 30–40 minutes, plus a short walk or local transfer to the plant itself — many Korean manufacturing employers also run staff shuttle buses from central pickup points, which is worth asking your relocation contact about before you commit to a district.
SK On Iváncsa — The Commute From Budapest
By car
Iváncsa is accessed via the M6 motorway, and a drive from a well-placed southern Budapest district (IX, XI, XXI) typically takes 45–60 minutes in normal traffic. From northern or central districts, that easily climbs past 75 minutes, which is why we rarely recommend a District III or XIII apartment for an Iváncsa assignment no matter how much an employee likes that neighborhood.
By train and shuttle
Public rail access to Iváncsa is far less direct than to Göd — there’s no single fast suburban line, and most journeys involve a change or a longer regional service. In practice, almost every company we work with on Iváncsa placements arranges a private shuttle or relies on employees having a car; budget for this when you’re costing the assignment.

- For Samsung SDI Göd: Districts III (Óbuda), XIII, and XV give the shortest realistic commute — close to the M2/route 2 corridor and the Nyugati suburban line, with good grocery, international schools, and everyday services already used by the existing Korean community in Óbuda.
- For SK On Iváncsa: Districts IX (Ferencváros), XI (Újbuda) and XXI (Csepel) sit closest to the M6 on-ramps, cutting real commute time by 20–30 minutes versus a north-side apartment. We also place a number of Iváncsa employees just south of the city in Érd or Százhalombatta when the assignment is longer than three months.
- Avoid mixing them up: the single biggest cost driver we see in corporate housing requests is an employee placed on the wrong side of the city — it looks fine on a map, but it adds 5–8 hours of commuting per week that nobody budgeted for.
What This Means for Your Housing Budget
Commute time isn’t just a comfort issue, it’s a productivity and retention issue. An employee losing 90 minutes a day to a badly placed apartment is an employee who arrives tired, asks to switch accommodation mid-assignment, or quietly starts looking for reasons to end the placement early. When we build a corporate extended stay package for a Samsung SDI or SK On placement, we start with the plant location and work backward — not the other way around. Every LifeSpace corporate unit includes a dedicated 24-inch workspace monitor, weekly in-house cleaning, and official Hungarian company invoicing, so HR and finance teams have one predictable line item instead of a pile of receipts. If your employees are also covering the daily commute themselves, read our guide on how Korean companies structure housing stipends in Budapest to see how other employers are budgeting the trade-off between rent and commute time.
Managing Budapest properties since 2019, our local team has placed employees for both the Göd and Iváncsa plants and can tell you within minutes which district fits your assignment — email us with the plant, headcount, and assignment length, and we’ll reply within 2 hours with real district and pricing options, not a generic listing page.
A Few Practical Notes Before You Book
Winter mornings add real variability to both commutes — fog on the Danube bend near Göd and icy sections of the M6 near Iváncsa are common between December and February, so build in a buffer if the assignment starts in that window. Shift patterns matter too: both plants run rotating shifts, and a 45-minute daytime commute can turn into a 60-minute drive at a 5am shift-change when public transport hasn’t started running yet. This is exactly why we ask about shift schedule, not just headcount, when we quote a corporate placement — an apartment 10 minutes from the M2 on-ramp is worth more to a rotating-shift Göd employee than a slightly cheaper unit that looks closer on a map but sits on the wrong side of the traffic.
If your company is placing employees at both plants at the same time, it’s usually more cost-effective to split the group across two clusters (north for Göd, south for Iváncsa) rather than housing everyone together in one “convenient” central location — 100+ apartments managed by a local Budapest team means we can typically match both clusters within the same week, with a single consolidated invoice for finance.
